The traditional Japanese women entertainers known as Geishas once wore heavy white makeup containing toxic lead and zinc, which damaged their skin. As a remedy, they applied a face mask of nightingale droppings. The birds' poo contains enzymes that are said to break down dead skin cells and guanine. The result is a warm glowing complexion. This treatment is making a comeback in high price salons around the globe only the droppings are now sanitized before being applied to the spa goers face.
